Afternoon tea at The Lane, Deal

One of the best afternoon teas I have ever had, and I’ve eaten a fair few of them! The Lane in Deal has become hugely popular for their afternoon tea, which can be requested as vegetarian or vegan too.

Your afternoon tea is served on a cute mini picnic table and features a huge variety of savoury and sweet treats, rather different to your usual traditional sandwiches, scone and cake selection. Instead, we were treated to a mini roast in a yorkshire pudding, a beef pie, a sweet potato and feta tart, a brie slider and a ham crispbread. There was a huge fruit scone with all the trimmings that we had to take home as it would have been game over if we had indulged! The cake selection was varied and included a festive cupcake, raspberry macaroon, chocolate orange brownie, cherry crumble cheesecake slice and a gingerbread cookie.

We asked the waitress if she had ever seen anyone finish it and she hadn’t…so they provide cake boxes to take home the leftovers. The only slight criticism I have is that some of the food, like the pie, would have been nice warm.

We were in The Lane for around two hours and during that time numerous people were turned away as they were fully booked. So if you do decide to go, you definitely need to book. It would be a great place to host a baby shower or hen party, they have an upstairs area you can book out. They also have a cocktail menu that looked fab and an evening menu with different deals each night that we will be coming back to try very soon!

The Lane is positioned just off the high street in Deal and they also have a bakery a few minutes walk away which is worth a visit – just to stare at the gorgeous cakes! You can order a custom made cake here too and the prices seemed reasonable.

Overall it was a very enjoyable experience; the food was lovely, the staff very friendly and it was great to have some adult time for a few hours!
